With a length of more than three kilometres, the extension of the Yellow Line (D) to Vila d’Este (Gaia)is underway. It concludes the construction of a 420 meter viaduct between Santo Ovídio and Manuel Leão (underground station), a one kilometre tunnel to the Santos Silva Hospital station and to Material and Workshop Park (PMO). With the expansion, three new stations will appear: Manuel Leão, Hospital Santos Silva and Vila D’Este. The operations start in the next month.
The extension of the line arose from the need to improve mobility in what is considered the “third largest city in the country in terms of population”. In Santo Ovídio, the current Yellow Line (D) station will also have a pedestrian connection to the future Rubi Line (H) station (Santo Ovídio – Casa da Música) and the future High Speed railway station, also in Santo Ovídio, whose roundabout should be transformed into a square.
Currently, Metro do Porto has six lines in operation, and in addition to this inauguration of the extension of the Yellow Line (D), the completion of the works on the Pink Line (G), between São Bento and Casa da Música and of the metrobus line between Casa da Música and Praça do Império.
Work on the Rubi Line (H) (Santo Ovídio – Casa da Música), which includes a new bridge over the Douro River, has already started, and the public process for the second phase of the ‘metrobus’, which will connect the service to Praça Cidade do Salvador (Anémona roundabout), has also been launched.
